Oracle to BEA: Time is on my side (yes it is!)
You remember the Rolling Stones song “Time is on my Side?” (link is to a pretty good Youtube video, check it out!)
Time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it isNow you always say
That you want to be free
But you’ll come running back (said you would baby)
You’ll come running back (I said so many times before)
You’ll come running back to meOh, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is
The great Warren Buffett once said “Time is the friend of the wonderful company, the enemy of the mediocre. ”
One of the dictionary definitions of the word “Rapacious” means: Subsisting on live prey. Do you think Oracle’s not-hostile-but-definitely-rapacious offer was a shot across the bow? No way–it’s an arrow in the side and BEA may run but it’s bleeding now. It’s pretty clear that customers will take a “wait and see” attitude about BEA in this current market environment–and that this will result in a worsening of results. If you think stockholders are baying for BEA management’s blood now, wait a few quarters.
Now that SAP has bluntly stated that they are not interested in acquiring BEA, Larry Ellison will probably be humming the refrain “You’ll come running back to me.”
